If this book wasn't enough to get me to seriously consider my dependence on fossil fuels, perhaps this will: the gas station up the hill just installed flat-screen TV's on every pump to flash pretty pictures in my face and to fill the air with promises of happiness through further consumption. All from a range of approximately two feet. It reminds me of the airport in Las Vegas, with the looming screens everywhere, beckoning me to chase after some shiny new toy.
